A Creative Thesis
This should be a developed piece of creative writing that has undergone an extensive revision process. For example, appropriate projects include, a collection of poems, a story or set of short stories, a chapter of a novel, a screenplay, or a piece of creative non-fiction. A prose project should total 20-25 pages. Longer pieces may be submitted upon approval of the advisor, but in this case less is more. A poetic project can be a series of linked poems, a long poem, or a group of poems that comprise a chapbook. They should total from 15-20 pages.
The project should also:
• be professionally presented, i.e., word-processed and bound, demonstrating a pride in the work. The goal is to produce a manuscript both polished and publishable.
• include a 2-4 page artist statement, explaining the goals and process
Include a 5-10 page critical analysis of prevailing aesthetic informing the work, and setting the work in its literary-historical context by describing how the work responds to specific writers and schools.
