Guidelines for Submission of Thesis

Guidelines for Senior Thesis/English 422 printing, binding and emailing

All 422 students should submit at least 2 drafts during the course of the semester to their advisor for feedback.

Students will submit a final copy (a week before the final day of class) for grading. The Advisor will give back the graded copy with comments for the students to revise. With the final approval of the student’s Thesis Advisor, the student should print a clean copy of the thesis for binding.

The student should also email a PDF copy of the thesis to the Thesis Advisor.

The student should include a cover sheet, an Acknowledgment page, a Table of Contents (if needed), the Abstract and the final paper (which should range from 25-30 pages and include a bibliography and a list of illustrations, if any are included in the text).  MLA or APA format must be used throughout.

The Cover Sheet should have the following (centered)

Once printed, the student is responsible for getting the Thesis bound (Kinko’s, Staples, Office Max are places in Brooklyn where this can get done cheaply).  The binding should include a clear cover, black back and black adhesive or ring binding.  Students should be encouraged to make a copy for the Advisor and one for their own records.

With the submission of the bound Thesis and PDF copy of the Thesis, the Advisor is able to process the final grade for English 422.

The Thesis Advisor should submit a copy of the Thesis to Tracy Belmosa and copy the Chair so that it can be uploaded to SharePoint.

The project should also: • be professionally presented, i.e., word-processed and bound, demonstrating a pride in the work. The goal is to produce a manuscript both polished and publishable. • include a 2-4 page artist statement, explaining the goals and process Include a 5-10 page critical analysis of prevailing aesthetic informing the work, and setting the work in its literary-historical context by describing how the wo...
